BONO REGIONAL MINISTER ENGAGES WOOD INDUSTRY STAKEHOLDERS ON SUSTAINABLE FOREST MANAGEMENT

On Monday, 12th May 2025, the Bono Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Addae Akwaboa, convened a high-level meeting with the leadership and members of the Lumber Dealers and Table Saw Millers associations, alongside his team at the Bono Regional Coordinating Council (RCC).
The meeting focused on fostering sustainable forest management, ensuring compliance with legal frameworks, and promoting fair revenue generation for the government.
The Minister emphasized the importance of balancing economic development with environmental sustainability. He noted that protecting forest lands for future generations while supporting the wood industry remains a key regional priority.
During the session, participants engaged in open and in-depth discussions about the challenges, opportunities, and threats currently facing the wood industry, with particular attention to the operations of Lumber Dealers and Table Saw Millers.

Hon. Akwaboa remarked that a comprehensive plan is expected to be introduced soon, aimed at benefiting both industry stakeholders and the government, while prioritizing forest conservation.
Among the proposed initiatives are intensified efforts to curb illegal chainsaw activities and the construction of a modern timber market to enhance industry efficiency.
Hon. Akwaboa reaffirmed his commitment to fostering a collaborative environment where stakeholders can thrive. He expressed optimism that the strengthened partnership between the government and the wood industry will yield tangible outcomes that enhance the well-being of residents in the Bono Region.
By prioritizing sustainable forest management, the regional leadership believes it is possible to safeguard the environment, stimulate economic growth, and secure a prosperous future for generations to come.
