The Bono Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Addae Akwaboa, has commended a group of young athletes from the Bono Region for their outstanding performances at the recent Junior Olympics.

The Minister made the commendation when a delegation of young athletes from the Bono Regional Sports Authority, led by the Regional Director, Mr. Kwame Baa Mensa, paid a courtesy call on him at his office on 8th September 2026.

The visit provided an opportunity for the athletes, who represented the Bono Region and Ghana at the Junior Olympics, to be officially introduced to the Regional Minister. Their participation and performances at the competition were recognized as a source of pride for both the region and the country.

Hon. Joseph Addae Akwaboa praised the athletes, their coaches and parents for their dedication and achievements, while encouraging the young sportsmen and women to combine their sporting ambitions with academic excellence.

He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the Bono Regional Sports Authority and pledged the necessary support towards the promotion and development of sports in the region.

The Regional Minister also disclosed that plans were underway for the sod-cutting of a new sports stadium at the old Abesim area. The proposed facility is expected to be developed on more than 35 acres of land, with President John Dramani Mahama expected to perform the sod-cutting ceremony soon.

Hon. Akwaboa urged the young athletes to pursue excellence in their respective sporting careers while taking their education seriously. He noted that education and skills development would provide them with a strong foundation for a secure and successful future, both within and beyond their sporting careers.

He further appealed to parents to continue investing in the wellbeing, education and overall development of their children. While acknowledging the challenges associated with raising and supporting young people, he stressed that parental guidance and encouragement remained essential to helping children realize their full potential.

The Regional Minister expressed confidence that sustained collaboration among government, the Sports Authority, coaches, parents and other stakeholders could help create an enabling environment for young talents in the Bono Region to thrive and achieve greater heights in sports and other areas of life.
