In a collaborative effort with the Regional Leadership of the Forestry Services Division, the Bono Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Addae Akwaboa, led the celebration of “Tree for Life 2025 (T4L) Restoration Initiative” at the Abesim St. James Seminary and Senior High School (SHS) within the Sunyani Municipality on June 5, 2025.

As part of the commemoration, the Regional Minister participated in a ceremonial tree planting to mark the occasion.

During the event, Hon. Akwaboa called on citizens to adopt tree planting as a lasting and continuous practice.

He emphasized the deep spiritual, cultural, and environmental value of trees, noting that “trees are more than symbolic art, but a seed of hope and a bequeathed legacy.”

Held under the theme “Make Ghana Green”, the event formed part of the broader national reforestation effort, which seeks to address pressing issues such as deforestation, biodiversity decline, and climate change.

“Tree planting must go beyond symbolism and be seen as a vital tool for restoring the environment and safeguarding our future generations,” Hon. Akwaboa stated, encouraging young people to actively engage in planting and caring for trees.

He highlighted the government’s ongoing commitment to reclaiming lost forest areas and reversing environmental degradation through the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and the Forestry Commission.

He explained that initiatives like the annual national tree planting campaign demonstrate the government’s dedication to restoring forest cover and promoting ecological sustainability.

According to Hon. Akwaboa, ensuring a sustainable environment and restoring forested areas is a shared duty, urging the public to fully support and participate in the nationwide tree planting drive.

Meanwhile, Mr. Godfred M. K. Quashigah, the Bono Regional Forestry Manager, revealed that the region’s target for this year is the planting of 200,000 trees. He mentioned that 100,000 seedlings, including timber, shade, ornamental, and fruit tree varieties, had already been distributed for planting.

This effort aims to enhance environmental consciousness, promote biodiversity, support ecosystem recovery, and contribute to the fight against climate change, including the rehabilitation of polluted water sources and the restoration of essential watersheds.

He further noted that the T4L initiative would significantly boost sustainable livelihoods through job creation, foster urban greening, and nurture a tree-growing mindset in children and the youth.
