His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama has committed to upgrading several critical roads in the Bono Region as part of his government’s drive to accelerate socio-economic growth.

Speaking during a durbar of chiefs and residents at the Sunyani Jubilee Park as part of his ‘Thank You Tour,’ on Friday, 30th May 2025, President Mahama outlined plans under his ambitious “Big Push” infrastructure agenda.

He announced that the initiative would include the rehabilitation of key roads such as the Sunyani Inner and Outer Ring Roads, the Catholic University Road, Berekum-Sampa Road, and Sampa-Wenchi Road. Additional roads set for improvement include the Odomasi-Badu Road, Kyeremasu-Gambia Number One and Two roads, the Sunyani-Techiman Road, and the Sunyani-Kumasi highway.

President Mahama assured the gathering that funding for the “Big Push” programme was fully secured, emphasizing that financial delays would not hinder progress. Contractors would be paid within two weeks of submitting their certificates, he said.

According to President Mahama, the Ministry of Roads has completed the necessary technical evaluations, and the first phase of the project would begin shortly. He emphasized that all roads would be built to high standards, ensuring durability, quality, and timely completion. Improved roads, he noted, are essential for better transportation, healthcare access, agriculture, trade, and overall economic activity.

The President also spoke about plans to develop sports infrastructure nationwide. Regions currently lacking modern sports facilities, including Bono and the six newly created regions, would benefit from the construction of multi-purpose stadiums.

Additionally, he mentioned that Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang is leading a national market enhancement strategy. Under this plan, five modern market centers will be built in strategic districts across the Bono Region, including Sunyani. These markets will feature amenities such as clean water, sanitation facilities, security, daycare centers, and digital infrastructure, aiming to empower women traders and boost local commerce.

Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr. Agyemang Badu II, Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional Area and President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, praised Mahama for his inclusive governance style.

He also commended the appointment of youth to significant positions and encouraged them to support the President’s vision. Furthermore, he applauded efforts to stabilize the cedi and called for consistent policies to maintain economic growth.
