On 25th July 2025, the Bono Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Addae Akwaboa, received a courtesy call from the Indian High Commissioner to Ghana, His Excellency Mannish Gupta.
The visit fostered discussions on deepening cooperation between India and the Bono Region across several key sectors.
The meeting focused on potential collaborations in digital investment, mining, and the cashew industry, sectors identified as critical to the region’s economic growth.
The High Commissioner expressed India’s strong interest in establishing a focal point within the Bono Region, citing its promising potential and strategic significance.

A major highlight of the discussion was India’s offer of over 70 government-sponsored scholarships available annually to Ghanaians, including residents of the Bono Region. These scholarships were acknowledged as a significant opportunity for capacity building and human resource development.
Hon. Akwaboa also appealed for support from the Indian Government towards the ongoing establishment of a medical school at the University of Energy and Natural Resources in Sunyani.
The initiative aims to boost healthcare education and access within the region.
Discussions also touched on prospects within the cashew sector, including plans to build a local processing plant to add value to the region’s production. Given India’s position as the world’s largest consumer of cashew, both parties saw immense potential for mutually beneficial trade and investment.
The Regional Minister expressed optimism about the evolving partnership and indicated his intention to return the courtesy visit to further strengthen bilateral cooperation aimed at driving development in Bono Region and beyond.
