HON. JOSEPH ADDAE AKWABOA BACKS PRESS FREEDOM AT REGIONAL WORLD PRESS FREEDOM DAY EVENT

The Bono Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Addae Akwaboa, joined members of the Ghana Journalists Association and the media fraternity in the Bono Region to commemorate World Press Freedom Day on May 5, 2025.

The event was held under the theme “Overcoming Barriers to Accessing Information in the Age of AI.”

Hon. Akwaboa noted that the theme was particularly timely, emphasizing the government’s ongoing commitment to upholding press freedom and promoting access to information as a fundamental human right.

He underscored the vital role journalists play in sustaining democracy, ensuring transparency, and reinforcing the rule of law.

He called for continued collaboration among stakeholders to eliminate obstacles to information access and to adopt emerging technologies responsibly. The Regional Minister reiterated his dedication to advancing digital literacy initiatives and affirmed his unwavering support for media freedom within the region.

Hon. Akwaboa encouraged all to remain resolute in upholding the values of openness, transparency, and justice, especially in the face of the evolving dynamics brought about by the digital era.
