COURTESY CALL ON BONO REGIONAL MINISTER BY THE WORLD BANK ON GHANA PRODUCTIVE SAFETY NET PROJECT PHASE 2

On Wednesday 24th April 2024, the Country Director of the World Bank together with a team of Officers from the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development paid a courtesy call on the Honourable Bono Regional Minister, Madam Justina Owusu-Banahene.

The visit among other things was to ascertain the status of implementation of the Ghana Productive Safety Net Project.

Ghana Productive Safety Net Project phase 2 is to strengthen and improve social safety net and productive inclusion of the poor and vulnerable especially the women. The project is to contribute and improve the assets of the poor through rehabilitation of degraded lands using coconut, cashew, oil palm, small earth dams and feeder roads.

Safety Net project is being implemented in five Assemblies in the Bono Region. These Assemblies include Wenchi, Jaman South, Dormaa East, Tain and Banda. The project seeks to employ about 70% of women in the Region and it is aimed at improving the penury and destitution of the people especially among women, by improving nutritional values, improved Healthcare, education of beneficiary families and creating economic opportunities for them.

The Honourable District Chief Executive of Dormaa East District, Mr.  Emmanuel Kofi Agyeman gave a presentation on the success of the Safety Net Project in his District as a case study and used the opportunity to call for more interventions from the project for other areas of his District.

Madam Owusu-Banahene entreated all MMDCEs to exhibit high sense of leadership and commitment towards the success of the programme.

She reiterated that the doors of the Bono Regional Co-ordinating Council are opened for technical backstopping should the need arise to ensure the successful implementation of this important project.
