GHANA REVENUE AUTHORITY SENSITIZES BONO RCC STAFF ON FILING OF ANNUAL INCOME TAX RETURNS
The management of the Bono Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) in collaboration with the Ghana Revenue authority (GRA) has organized a day sensitization workshop for its Staff on filing of annual income tax returns.
The event took place at the Conference Room of the RCC on 26th April 2024.
The move forms part of the educational drive for workers to have a deeper insight, requirement and the understanding of filing of annual income tax particularly tax relief for Staff.
Addressing members at the workshop, a Deputy Director of Administration at Bono RCC, Mr. Alexander Bae-Yeboah, on behalf of the Chief Director of Bono RCC, explained the primary purpose of filing tax returns, pointing out that the gesture mitigates employees the tax burden on their income hence members must take advantage of it.
He emphasized the need for the durbar and pleaded with the staff present to ensure Maximum Corporation during the durbar. Mr. Bae-Yeboah continued that it has become necessary to have the orientation for staff on Tax System in Ghana and urged the facilitators to be clear and concise in their presentation to ensure a successful durbar.
Mrs. Lucy Adobea Korsah from GRA gave a power point presentation on Tax System in Ghana and was supported by Mr. Allan Tetteh and Mr. Derrick Ayi.
Mrs. Lucy said aside from the objective of creating awareness, the sensitization was also to remind taxpayers of their obligation in filing their tax returns.
“We also educate them to understand that filing their tax return is not just for you to pay tax, but it also affords you or gives you the opportunity to claim certain benefits,” she said.
She said some of the reliefs taxpayers could enjoy, include child education relief, marital relief, and mortgage relief.
She taught the participants on the role GRA play in the tax System in Ghana. She further highlighted on how to file tax returns as an employee. She mentioned that for the past two years GRA has been operating on cashless system as a result of digitalization and that in Ghana, it’s now mandatory for each and every employee to file his/her tax returns every year.
She further mentioned that GRA has instituted plans to enforce tax return law in Ghana to encourage each one to comply with the new tax system.
She continued to say that GRA has introduce tax portal App which can be downloaded on play store or IOS. Mrs Lucy Adobea stated that, the introduction of the tax App is to make is easier for everyone to file his or her tax returns without necessary going to GRA offices. She took the participants through the tax portal and how to download and sign up as a first timer.
Mrs. Akua Gyekyewa Antwi on behalf of Regional Minister and Chief Director thanked the officials from GRA for coming up with such an important education to sensitize the staff.
She expressed her satisfaction and thanked all the staff for making the durbar a success.
