The Bono Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Addae Akwaboa, joined students, staff, and stakeholders at Sunyani Senior High School (SUSEC) on 26th June 2025 to commemorate World Drug Abuse Day as the special guest of honour.

In his address, the Minister underscored the critical importance of the day, which serves as a reminder of the far-reaching impact of drug abuse on individuals, families, and communities.

He emphasized that drug abuse is not merely a personal challenge, but a multifaceted societal issue tied to poverty, peer pressure, and mental health challenges, with severe implications for public health, economic development, and social stability.

He highlighted the need for a collective response to the drug menace, stressing that addressing its root causes and offering strong community support systems are key to lasting change. Creating environments that encourage healthy living and ensuring access to resources for those battling addiction were cited by the Minister as crucial strategies.

Hon. Akwaboa commended the organizers of the event for their efforts and called on all citizens to join the campaign against drug abuse. He stressed the importance of educating the youth, supporting families, and expanding treatment and rehabilitation services to build a healthier, more resilient Bono Region.

He concluded with a call for unity and action, urging all stakeholders to work together toward a future where every individual has the opportunity to thrive, free from the grip of substance abuse.
