The Bono Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Addae Akwaboa, on 9th June 2026 officially launched the Free Primary Healthcare Policy in the Bono Region on behalf of the Government of Ghana and the Ministry of Health.

The policy forms part of government’s broader commitment to ensuring equitable access to healthcare services and strengthening the national drive toward universal health coverage. It is designed to improve access to essential healthcare, enhance early disease detection, and promote preventive care across both urban and rural communities.

The initiative is expected to strengthen healthcare delivery through closer collaboration among health institutions, local authorities, and other key stakeholders in the health sector.

Speaking at the launch, the Regional Minister emphasized the importance of responsible use of healthcare services and commended health professionals for their continued dedication and service to the population. He further highlighted that the success of the policy would depend on strong collaboration, accountability, and effective resource management to ensure inclusive healthcare delivery.

Hon. Akwaboa said the successful implementation of the policy largely depended on health professionals, urging them to be more sensitive to the plight of clients and provide them with quality healthcare services.

The event, attended by health personnel, including Municipal and District Directors of Health, the Bono Regional Director of Health, Dr. Abdulai Abukari, as well as other key stakeholders in the health sector was on the theme “Free Primary Healthcare: Removing the financial barrier towards achieving universal health coverage”.

The Free Primary Healthcare Policy is anticipated to significantly improve health outcomes in the region by reducing barriers to basic healthcare and reinforcing efforts toward achieving universal health coverage, ensuring that no individual is left behind.
