NHIA MID-YEAR REVIEW – BONO MINISTER REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO UNIVERSAL HEALTH COVERAGE

The Bono Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Addae Akwaboa, has called for stronger collaboration and deeper coordination among stakeholders in the health sector to ensure the effective implementation and sustainability of the Free Primary Healthcare initiative in the Bono Region.

The Minister made the call on Friday, 21st August 2026, when he participated in the Mid-Year Performance Review Meeting of the Bono Regional Directorate of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) in Sunyani. The meeting was held under the theme, “Free Primary Healthcare: The Pathway to Achieving Universal Health Coverage in the Bono Region.”

Addressing participants, Hon. Akwaboa stressed the importance of collective action among health-sector stakeholders in strengthening primary healthcare delivery and ensuring that the Free Primary Healthcare initiative achieves its intended impact.

He commended the management and staff of the NHIA for their commitment, dedication and continued efforts to improve access to quality healthcare across the region. He further urged them to remain focused, innovative and results-oriented while striving to exceed set targets in support of the government’s health agenda.

The Regional Minister noted that achieving universal health coverage requires a sustained commitment to strengthening primary healthcare, expanding access and ensuring that every resident, regardless of their circumstances or location, can access quality and affordable healthcare when needed.

He emphasised that continued collaboration among government institutions, health-sector stakeholders and communities would be essential to achieving better health outcomes and building a stronger, more responsive healthcare system for the people of the Bono Region.
