REGIONAL AGRIC OFFICERS EMBARK ON MONITORING OF VARIOUS PROGRAMMES AND PROJECTS
The monitoring activities carried out in the Region were essential for ensuring that activity implementation was done effectively and efficiently to achieve targets, identify challenges, and propose feasible solutions to mitigate these challenges. The exercise also aimed to support the Districts and field officers in improving the efficient execution of their mandate.
Districts undertook monitoring of the Feed Ghana Programme (FGP) registration exercise. During the monitoring, sensitization on the programme was also conducted through FBO meetings, home visits, and radio broadcasts, as well as Community Information Centers, to equip stakeholders with relevant information and updates on the progress made so far.
The program aims to provide food to the people and supply raw materials to the agricultural industry. Some of the observations included inadequate staff to register FBOs as quickly as possible, a misunderstanding of whether a farmer can belong to two or more FBOs (based on the number of commodities cultivated), and other FBO/Cooperative-related issues. As of the end of September, a total of 4,752 FBOs and Cooperatives have been registered in the Region.
It was recommended that sensitization should be intensified mainly through the radio stations and Community Information Centers to reach more stakeholders in a short time. Districts with a lower number of registrations should also intensify the campaign to ensure their farmer benefit from any immediate intervention that the government may roll out. Again, any unresolved concerns should be channeled to the Regional Officers for redress as soon as possible.
