AGRICULTURE DEPARTMENTS IN MMDAs COLLABORATE WITH EAST-WEST SEED KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER TO EXTEND AGRICULTURE SERVICES TO FARMERS

The Berekum East Municipality, Sunyani Municipality, Sunyani West Municipal, and Berekum West District Assemblies collaborated with East-West Seed Knowledge Transfer to extend agriculture services to farmers.
Training programs were organized for farmers on modern and effective agricultural techniques such as soil preparation, seed selection, planting methods, improved irrigation practices, safe and improved fertilizer/agrochemical application practices, weed control, pest and disease management, and harvesting practices.
Demonstration fields/Learning Centers were established at Mamprusi, Johnsonkrom, Abrokyire, Donkorkrom, Asuotia (Sunyani Municipal), Senase, Biadan, Namasua, Kutre No.1, Kato-Anyinasu, Kotaa, Kutre No.2, Berekum, and Kotaa (Berekum Municipal).

Improving on last year’s activities, additional communities such as Twumasikrom, Henekrom, and Nkranketiwa (Sunyani West Municipality) and Jinijini, Fetentaa, Botokrom, and Koraso (Berekum West) have been brought on board.
Field days were organized during the implementation of these activities. In all 439 farmers, including 177 females and 136 youths took part in the field days. AEAs were also expected to disseminate these technologies to farmers in other communities. The crops involved in the project were tomatoes, onion, cabbage, cucumber, sweet pepper, and garden eggs.
In Sunyani Municipal, it has been observed that some agro-input shops are now selling East-West seeds, and patronage is reportedly encouraging.
