HEALTH OFFICER URGES MEDIA TO CHAMPION ENVIRONMENTAL CLEANLINESS TO PREVENT CHOLERA OUTBREAK

Mrs. Nana Ama Gyankoma Asirifi, the Bono Regional Health Promotion Officer, has appealed to the media to intensify public awareness campaigns on environmental cleanliness, particularly as the rainy season begins, in order to help prevent a potential cholera outbreak.
She expressed appreciation to the Sunyani Municipal Assembly for organizing a recent clean-up exercise within the municipality and encouraged the continuation of such initiatives across all 12 political and administrative districts in the region.
Speaking during a media engagement in Sunyani, Mrs. Asirifi called on media houses to allocate airtime for the regional health directorate to educate the public on disease prevention.
She emphasized that with the onset of the rains, it was the responsibility of every citizen to maintain clean surroundings, avoid indiscriminate littering, and refrain from dumping plastic and solid waste into gutters, which often leads to blockages and increases the risk of waterborne diseases.
Madam Medina Doku, the Bono Regional Environmental Health Officer, also highlighted the importance of hygiene among food vendors. She urged them to maintain personal cleanliness and ensure that food is prepared and sold in hygienic environments to prevent contamination.
