ATRONIE CHIEFS ENGAGE BONO REGIONAL MINISTER FOR DEVELOPMENT SOLUTIONS

The Atronie Traditional Authority, led by Obrempong Amponsem Darko II, engaged in discussions with the Honourable Bono Regional Minister, Madam Justina Owusu-Banahene at the Conference Room of the Regional Coordinating Council to address pressing development challenges facing Atronie in the Sunyani Municipality.

Key topics during the meeting included improving access to pre-tertiary and tertiary education, creating job opportunities for the town’s youth, addressing environmental sanitation concerns, protecting Atronie forest reserves, tackling the deplorable road connecting Bono to Ahafo via Atronie, examining the impact of the Newmont Gold mining company in Atronie, exploring skills training opportunities, empowering livelihoods, ensuring clean drinking water for satellite communities, and implementing drainage systems.

Madam Justina Owusu-Banahene, a native of Atronie, lauded the Chiefs for their visionary approach, emphasizing their commitment to the town’s collective welfare over individual interests. She pledged government support to address immediate development needs and recognized the pivotal role Chiefs play as intermediaries between the community and the government.

The Regional Minister highlighted the importance of Chiefs in engaging duty bearers for development, ensuring that community needs and concerns are effectively communicated and addressed. She emphasized that Chiefs act as vital links, facilitating communication between the community and the government, thus ensuring equitable distribution of development benefits.

Madam Justina Owusu-Banahene emphasized that Chiefs often serve as the first point of contact for government officials during the planning and implementation of development projects. Traditional councils, in turn, play crucial roles in monitoring and evaluating these projects, ensuring they align with community needs and cause no harm.

In her role as a citizen, Madam Justina Owusu-Banahene shared that several livelihood programs had been initiated in Atronie through her personal initiatives. Regarding education, she assured the people of Atronie that ongoing discussions aimed at establishing a pre-tertiary school were promising, offering hope for positive developments in the near future.

The Regional Minister concluded by expressing the belief that through collaborative efforts between traditional councils and governments, the lives of people, particularly in Atronie, could be significantly improved.

She said the meeting marks a crucial step toward addressing the town’s challenges and fostering sustainable development in the region.
