REGIONAL MINISTER AND TURKISH AMBASSADOR DISCUSS STRATEGIC AREAS OF COOPERATION

On 8th December 2025, the Bono Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Addae Akwaboa, paid a courtesy visit to the Turkish Ambassador to Ghana, His Excellency Hüseyin Güngör, at his residence.

The meeting brought together several dignitaries, including the Bono Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), H.E Kwadwo Nyamekye Marfo; the Municipal Chief Executive for Wenchi, Hon. Gloria Opoku Gyamfi; the Chief Director of the Bono Regional Coordinating Council, Mr. Nar-ire Puobenyere David; and other officials.

The engagement provided an opportunity to explore how the Bono Region could benefit from the longstanding bilateral relations between Ghana and Turkey.

Discussions focused on potential areas of collaboration, particularly in trade, education and agriculture. Among the key issues examined was the facilitation of Turkish investment and trade partnerships in the Bono Region, with emphasis on the region’s cashew and timber resources.

The possibility of attracting investment into furniture manufacturing was also highlighted as a strategic avenue for boosting regional economic growth.

The meeting further considered educational cooperation, including scholarship opportunities for students from the Bono Region to promote academic exchange and human capital development.

In addition, discussions touched on potential support from Turkey in the provision of medical equipment, which could contribute to plans for establishing a medical school in the region.

Overall, the meeting underscored the importance of diplomatic engagement in advancing economic development and strengthening international cooperation.

Both sides expressed interest in sustaining the dialogue and identifying practical steps to deepen collaboration between the Bono Region and Turkey for mutual benefit.
