BONO REGIONAL MINSTER PAYS UNANNOUNCED VISIT TO NEDCO FACILITY OVER POWER OUTAGES

On April 28, 2025, the Bono Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Addae Akwaboa, paid an unannounced visit to the Regional NEDCO facility in Sunyani to investigate the recent wave of power outages affecting the region.
Despite ongoing discussions between the Regional Coordinating Council and NEDCO officials, the Minister sought to personally assess the situation on the ground.
During the visit, he inspected the facility and engaged with regional engineers to gain insights into the root causes of the disruptions.
According to information provided by the engineers, a network breakdown had occurred following a whirlwind incident that broke one of the wooden poles at Baakoniaba. The fallen pole brought down connectors, resulting in widespread outages in areas including Estate, Newtown, Bank of Ghana, NAT Hostel, Berlin Top, Fiapre, RCC, and the vicinity of Eusbeth Hotel.

Further investigations revealed that the protective machines in the control room had also suffered heavy impact damage.
In response, emergency restoration measures were initiated, and expert engineers from NEDCO’s national headquarters were called in to support efforts toward a permanent resolution.
While acknowledging the inconvenience caused to residents, the Minister assured the public that a directive had been issued to the NEDCO team to restore power and stabilize supply by the end of the day. He emphasized that the people of Sunyani deserve a reliable electricity supply and reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring lasting solutions.
