BONO REGIONAL MINISTER REAFFIRMS GOVERNMENT’S SUPPORT TO UENR’S WORLD-CLASS VISION
The Bono Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Addae Akwaboa, has reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to strengthening higher education in Ghana, with a renewed focus on supporting the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) to become a world-class institution.
During a working visit to UENR’s main campus at Fiapre-Sunyani on August 5, 2025, the Minister praised the university’s leadership for their prudent financial management, especially in the utilization of Internally Generated Funds (IGF).
He commended Vice Chancellor Prof. Elvis Asare-Bediako and his team for successfully delivering key infrastructure projects, including a new administrative office complex, four lecture pavilions, and a basic school.
Hon. Akwaboa assured the university community that UENR would remain an integral part of the government’s broader national development agenda. He revealed that discussions were currently underway with the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) to resume all stalled infrastructure projects across university campuses, including those at UENR.
In response, Prof. Asare-Bediako expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama and the current government for their renewed commitment to the institution. He confirmed that funding had been released for contractors to resume abandoned projects, some of which had stalled for over five years.
He also acknowledged the government’s pledge of a GHC10 million seed fund to support UENR’s strategic development.
The Vice Chancellor further appealed to corporate institutions such as Ghana Gas and the Bank of Ghana to expedite their ongoing support for projects they had initiated on campus.
He called on other stakeholders to join hands in advancing the government’s ‘Reset Agenda’ in education, while boosting UENR’s capacity to play a central role in Ghana’s development journey.
