The Bono Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Addae Akwaboa, has urged Muslims to support the fight against the emerging illegal mining activities in the Bono Region.

He said the region needed the support and contribution of Muslims to stem the menace, saying illegal mining threatened food and water sustainability in the region.

The Regional Minister gave the advice when he addressed hundreds of Muslims at the Sunyani Jubilee Park on 31st March 2025, to mark the Eid ul-Fitr celebration.

Hon. Akwaboa highlighted the devastating effects of illegal mining, including the destruction of water sources and the environment and warned those involved in that bad practice to stop, saying offenders would be prosecuted.

“The government has introduced strategies to stem the practice, and we are going to prosecute offenders,” he stated, and cautioned the youth who engage in illegal logging and lumbering to stop, as the government has plans to create decent jobs for the youth.

Hon. Akwaboa assured the Muslim community that the government remains dedicated to transforming the Hajj Village into a state-of-the-art facility, aiming to improve the travel experience for pilgrims.

He said the government was working tirelessly to fulfill its election 2024 campaign promises, saying the reduction in Hajj fares and the introduction of two public holidays for the Eid celebrations were attestations to that.

Hon. Akwaboa urged the Muslims to cherish and help promote the prevailing peace of the region for development to thrive. He also extended his warmest wishes, praying that Allah accepts the prayers and fasting of all and blesses them with His mercy.

In a show of support and solidarity, Hon. Akwaboa donated essential food staples to the Muslim community as part of the Eid ul-Fitr celebrations.

The Bono Regional Chief Imam, Alhaji Imam Baba Seidu, led the Muslims to pray for the nation and asked them to always show love and care for the vulnerable and needy in society.
