BONO REGION HOLDS SECOND EDITION OF AGRICULTURE FAIR

The second edition of the Regional Agriculture Fair was held at Victoria Park in Sunyani from the 27th to the 29th of September 2022. This aimed at bringing agriculture stakeholders to a one-stop shop to interact with each other. The theme was “Promoting Market Linkages through Agriculture Fair”.
The Fair seeks to among other things;
- Provide a single platform for major stakeholders in the Agricultural sector
- Provide an opportunity for Agribusinesses to network with potential clients
- Promote technologies helpful in increasing farm enterprise incomes, and
- Provide updated agriculture-related information to industry players in the Agriculture sector
In her speech, Regional Minister Justina Owusu Banahene said the Fair would clear the misconception of the youth that agriculture is a poverty-oriented enterprise and only meant for those who did not go to school. The fair would also draw the commitment of the youth to enter into the enterprise. She made a clarion call to the youth to take advantage of the policies and programmes by the government to enter into agriculture to better their future. She added that farmers should not throw away indigenous knowledge of farming but must blend it with new and improved technologies to ensure maximum productivity.
The Regional Director of Agriculture said the Modernizing Agriculture in Ghana (MAG) programme aimed at supporting agriculture services to build market linkages to promote value chain development. He said, since the inception of MAG, the Regional Agriculture Department has supported various initiatives aimed at addressing marketing gaps and promoting market linkages among agriculture value chain participants.
