BONO REGIONAL CHILD PROTECTION COMMITTEE HOLDS 1ST AND 2ND QUARTERS MEETING IN SUNYANI

On Monday, 26^th August 2024, the Bono Regional Child Protection Committee held its first and second quarters meeting at the Conference Room of the Bono Regional Coordinating Council in Sunyani.

The meeting, which was attended by the Honourable Bono Regional Minister, Madam Justina Owusu-Banahene, brought together members of the committee including representatives from Gender Department, Children Department, CHRAJ, DOVVSU, Prisons Service, Social Welfare, Community Development departments as well as religious and traditional leaders, Civil Society Organizations, NGOs among others.

In her opening address, the Hon. Banahene highlighted on the need to take the committee seriously since it plays a vital role in shaping the lives and welfare of children in the region.

She admonished parents to train their children in the right path and urged them to correct their children when they (children) go wrong so that the children will become responsible citizens in future.

Other participants of the meeting gave presentations on efforts and interventions they have undertaken to ensure proper care and training of children in their jurisdiction.

Some of the presentations given were on Integrated Social Services (ISS) implementation by Social Welfare Community Development Departments, reports from regional directors on child protection issues by Children Department, report on Child Protection in Emergency Rapid Assessment by WENSAH Foundation, an NGO, report on activities to end child marriage and how the gender transformative approach has been incorporated by the Gender Department.

Other relevant issues relating to child rights and child protection were also discussed.
