GOVERNMENT SUPPORTS TWENTY FARMER BASED ORGANIZATIONS (FBO) WITH 37 MULTI-CROP THRESHERS – REGIONAL AGRIC DEPARTMENT REPORTS
As part of efforts to resource the Farmer Based Organizations (FBO) with agriculture equipment and machinery to facilitate quick execution of activities, the government, through the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, supported 20 FBOs/individuals with 37 multi-crop threshers to aid in the threshing of grains. The support for the beneficiaries, including women FBOs, was meant to motivate the farmers to increase crop production (especially, rice) and reduce the threshing and processing time of rice, maize, soybean, cowpea, etc.
Again, to scale up rice production and improve harvesting practices, MoFA supported 14 FBOs/farmer groups with 50 Reapers. The beneficiaries, which also included women FBOs, were supported with equipment to motivate them to increase rice production. To ensure efficient use and proper maintenance of the equipment, the Regional Engineer undertook field training for all beneficiary FBOs/farmer groups to build their capacity on the correct use, proper handling and operations of the equipment.
The main objective of the training was to give the beneficiary farmer groups precautionary measures to follow on the use, handling, repairs, maintenance and operations of the rice reapers.
