BONO AGRIC DEPARTMENTS REPORT ON COLLABORATION WITH MoFA PROJECTS
The Carbon Credit Project was implemented in beneficiary districts. The Project is being implemented by the Directorate of Crop Services in collaboration with Rabobank and the World Food Programme (WFP) under the code name “Agroforestry Carbon Removal Units for the Organic Restoration of Nature” (ACORN).
The aim is to develop Ghana’s carbon credit market. The Project focuses on promoting sustainable tree planting/tree crop farming, as well as forest restoration, to reduce carbon emissions from deforestation and forest degradation.

This is expected to enhance carbon sequestration, environmental sustainability, and provide future economic benefits through fruit and nut production. The active involvement of youth and both genders reflects a commendable level of inclusiveness and community participation in climate-smart agriculture initiatives.
A total of 4,031 farmers, including 1,385 females, benefited from the sensitization and registration. However, 1,371 farmers, comprising 575 females, benefited from the distribution of mango, cashew, and moringa seedlings between July and September.
As part of the Project, farmer sensitization, data collection, and farm polygon mapping were undertaken in selected communities, including Sunyani Municipal, Berekum Municipal, Berekum West, Sunyani West, Tain, and Wenchi Municipality. Some of the beneficiary communities included Krosua No. 1 & 2, Kyeremekrom, Apaaso, Sofokrom, Benue Nkwanta, Abrokyire, and others (all in Sunyani Municipality), as well as Nsoatre (in Sunyani West).
