The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) has introduced the Agriculture for Economic Transformation Agenda (AETA) to accelerate the growth and modernization of the agricultural sector.

To implement this agenda, MoFA has designed the Feed Ghana Programme (FGP) as its flagship programme to provide food to the people and raw materials for the agro-industry. It is the umbrella programme for implementing all the initiatives under the AETA.

This programme includes targeted strategies and specific projects focused on increasing food production and improving agricultural efficiency through modernized farming practices, infrastructure development, and the creation of agro-industrial zones. Priority commodities include grains and legumes, vegetables, starchy crops, tree crops, and livestock. Ultimately, it will ensure food security, reduce food inflationary pressures, boost exports, and contribute to long-term economic growth.

A core component of this programme is the establishment of Farmers’ Service Centres (FSCs) across the country. These centres are strategically designed as one-stop hubs to provide farmers with timely access to essential inputs and services, including improved seeds, fertilizers, mechanization services, extension support, climate-smart technologies, and market information.

By bridging the gap between farmers and critical agricultural services, the FSCs aim to improve operational efficiency at the farm level and facilitate the transition toward more commercialized and modern farming systems.

During the second quarter, all Agriculture Departments of districts in the Bono Region conducted sensitization exercises through FBO meetings, home visits, and radio broadcasts, as well as Community Information Centers, to educate farmers on the terms and conditions of the program.

Registration of Community Farmer-Based Organizations (FBOs) and Cooperatives is currently underway across the region and the country at large to register Commodity-based Community FBOs and their membership onto the Web-based portal of the MoFA.

Currently, a total of 3,152 FBOs and Cooperatives have been registered in the Bono Region. Additionally, the Agriculture Extension Agents (AEAs) are facilitating the formation of FBOs and their registration as cooperatives.
