AGRIC DEPARTMENTS IN BONO REGION COLLABORATE WITH PARTNERS TO TRAIN FARMERS
Sensitization of farmers on the Feed Ghana Programme (FGP), in collaboration with various radio stations, was conducted across the Region to disseminate information about the programme. The information included the aim of the programme, the components of the programme, modalities about how farmers can benefit, and the need to form FBOs and Cooperatives.
The Berekum West Department collaborated with the CSIR-Crop Research Institute to establish 54 okra and tomato varietal trials to assess their adaptability to the environment and compare yields with locally grown varieties. These demonstrations were established at Jinijini and Domfete. While some trials were unsuccessful due to the July–August drought, the tomato trial (Kwabena Kwabena and Kopia varieties) performed well. Twenty (20) farmers, including four females, benefited from the trial.

The Dormaa Municipal Department also collaborated with the Rainbow Agro-Scientists Company Limited to educate farmers on the proper handling of weedicides and introduce their products to the farmers. A total of 65 farmers, including 20 females, in the Asunsu No.1 community benefited from the training.
During the training, demonstrations were conducted for the farmers to observe the proper handling of certain chemicals and also to learn how to use the knapsack spraying machine. Additionally, farmers were educated on the composition of certain chemicals and their toxicity levels, as well as the withdrawal periods for specific crops.
