The second phase of the Ghana Productivity Safety Net Project (GPSNP-2) in 2024 included the inclusion initiative and cultivation of coconut as an alternative livelihood cash crop for poor rural farmers.
Cashew and coconut seedlings were nursed in beneficiary communities, and distribution was done in Mewerenfiriwuo and Nsesresu (Dormaa East) and Menji and Tainso-Drobo, (Tain District).
The project considered the poor and less privileged groups and farmers during the distribution of the seedlings. About 527 farmers, including 328 females, benefitted from the seedling distribution in the second phase of the project.
Weeding of plantation farms and watering of seedlings (during the dry spell period) were done in Dormaa East, Tain, and Banda Districts.
