The Bono Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Addae Akwaboa, on 8th June 2026 officially inaugurated a two-day capacity-building workshop aimed at strengthening the competencies of Finance, Procurement and Internal Audit officers and addressing recurring audit infractions to improve Public Financial Management (PFM) practices.

The workshop brought together representatives from Regional Coordinating Councils (RCCs), as well as Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies across the Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo Regions. The training forms part of ongoing efforts to enhance financial management, accountability, and compliance within public institutions.

Representing the Minister for Finance, Hon. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Regional Minister formally opened the resource-focused programme and highlighted the importance of financial discipline and accountability in the public sector.

In his address, Hon. Joseph Addae Akwaboa emphasized the need for public institutions to uphold sound financial management practices and ensure strict adherence to established regulations. He further stressed that Chief Directors and Chief Executives must take responsibility for audit infractions within their respective institutions and work proactively to prevent deficiencies that could undermine public trust and effective service delivery.

The Minister noted that promoting transparency, accountability, and integrity in public financial management remains essential to achieving good governance and sustainable development. He expressed confidence that the workshop would equip participants with the knowledge and practical tools required to strengthen compliance and improve financial management outcomes across the three regions.

The workshop is expected to contribute significantly to ongoing efforts to reinforce accountability mechanisms and enhance the overall effectiveness of Public Financial Management systems in Ghana.
