The Bono Regional Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Mrs. Fati Kine-Lam, has called on newly appointed Municipal and District Coordinators in the region to take a frontline role in disaster prevention and management.

Addressing the coordinators at a one-day orientation workshop organized by the Regional Directorate, Mrs. Kine-Lam emphasized the importance of proactive disaster risk reduction strategies at the local level. She tasked them to champion regular clean-up campaigns, lead public education efforts through community engagements, and intensify radio discussions on disaster preparedness.

She stressed that disaster management is a shared responsibility, urging the coordinators to collaborate with key institutions such as the Ghana National Fire Service, Environmental Health Officers, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the National Petroleum Authority.

Mrs. Kine-Lam also encouraged the coordinators to build strong relationships with traditional leaders, religious institutions, and local social groups like fan clubs to foster community participation in disaster-related programmes.

Highlighting their core mandate, she reminded the coordinators that they are the first line of defense against disasters in their districts and must work closely with Members of Parliament, Municipal and District Chief Executives, and Assembly Members. She further encouraged them to explore partnerships with civil society organizations to mobilize resources and expand their operational reach.

Nana Yeboah, Bono Regional Operations Officer of NADMO, added that tree planting plays a vital role in disaster prevention and climate resilience. He urged the coordinators to take the lead in initiating tree planting exercises in local schools and communities.

The workshop aimed to equip the new coordinators with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively carry out their roles and contribute to a safer, disaster-resilient region.
