PRESIDENT MAHAMA CUTS SOD FOR BIG PUSH INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS IN BONO REGION

On 21st December 2025, the Bono Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Addae Akwaboa, welcomed His Excellency, John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, to the Bono Region for the ceremonial sod-cutting for the commencement of the Big Push infrastructure projects, marking a major milestone in the region’s development agenda.

The event signaled the government’s commitment to accelerating infrastructure delivery and driving socio-economic growth within the Bono Region.

The ‘Big Push’ project includes major road projects such as the Sunyani Outer Ring Road, Sunyani-Atronie-Acherensua Road, Sunyani-Wenchi-Berekum Road, and Jinijini-Sampa
Road.

At the sod-cutting ceremony at Watchman near Sunyani in the Bono Region, President Mahama announced that $2 million would be released annually, totaling $10 million over five years to support the project.

He also revealed that $5 million in road contracts had already been awarded, with every region in the country set to benefit.

Local contractors, including Rango, Kofi Job and Alexiboam have been awarded contracts for the projects as the President emphasized the importance of engaging local contractors and labour to create jobs to boost community development.

President Mahama said the initiative aimed to boost economic development, improve transportation and enhance regional connectivity. He assured Ghanaians that the projects would not be abandoned and also promised to pay old contractors owed by the previous government.

Hon. Joseph Addae Akwaboa expressed appreciation, on behalf of the people of the Bono Region, to the President for his visit and leadership. He described the sod-cutting ceremony as the beginning of a transformative journey aimed at building a more resilient, inclusive, and prosperous future for the region.

The Big Push is a massive infrastructure development programme initiated by President John Dramani Mahama aimed at transforming Ghana’s road network and boosting economic growth.

It is expected to improve transportation, enhance regional connectivity, and stimulate economic activity.
