BONO REGIONAL MINISTER RECEIVES 3,800 EXERCISE BOOKS FROM NALAG FOR BASIC SCHOOLS

The National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG) has provided 3,800 exercise books to selected basic school pupils in the Bono Region to support teaching and learning at the beginning of the 2026/2027 academic year.

The intervention, presented at a ceremony in Sunyani on 9th September 2026, is aimed at helping to address shortages of essential learning materials among pupils, particularly those from rural and underserved communities.

Bono Regional Representative of NALAG, Madam Patient Asare, explained that the initiative formed part of the association’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities and was intended to ease some of the financial pressures faced by families in providing basic educational materials for their children.

She noted that the inability of some families to afford exercise books and other learning materials could negatively affect pupils’ participation and academic progress. According to her, such challenges were particularly evident in some rural communities, where children sometimes reported to school without the basic materials required for their studies.

Madam Asare said NALAG remained committed to supporting efforts to improve access to quality education and would continue working with local assemblies, educational institutions and other stakeholders to develop interventions targeting children and vulnerable groups.

Receiving the exercise books on behalf of the region, the Bono Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Addae Akwaboa, described the donation as timely, noting that access to basic learning materials continued to be a challenge for some pupils, especially in rural communities.

He stressed the importance of education to regional and national development and said the provision of the exercise books would contribute to creating more favourable conditions for effective teaching and learning in the beneficiary schools.

The Regional Minister further urged Municipal and District Assemblies to work closely with the Ghana Education Service (GES) to ensure that the materials were distributed equitably to pupils who needed them most.

He also encouraged corporate institutions, philanthropic organisations and individuals to complement government efforts by investing in educational development, particularly in underserved communities.

The Bono Regional Director of Education, Mr. Gabriel Antwi, commended NALAG for the donation and expressed the hope that similar interventions would be sustained to support schools across the region.

He noted that providing pupils with the necessary learning materials could help improve their participation in classroom activities and encourage them to remain focused on their education.

The donation forms part of broader stakeholder efforts to address resource gaps in basic education and create improved learning conditions for children across the Bono Region.
