HON. JOSEPH ADDAE AKWABOA COMMISSIONS UENR BASIC SCHOOL IN SUNYANI

The University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) Basic School in Sunyani was officially inaugurated on 8th September 2025, with a strong call for teachers to prioritize nurturing the potential of learners rather than focusing solely on certification.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Gabriel Antwi, Bono Regional Director of Education, emphasized that quality education goes beyond certificates. He urged teachers to redouble their efforts in identifying and developing the talents of learners, stressing that this approach would help shape them into responsible adults who can contribute meaningfully to society.
Mr. Antwi highlighted that learners could only grow to become valuable assets if educators consistently work to build their inherent abilities and guide them responsibly.
Hon. Joseph Addae Akwaboa, Bono Regional Minister, commended UENR for its commitment to promoting quality education at all levels. He encouraged the management of the new basic school to adopt a strong institutional culture and ensure proper maintenance of the facility.

In inaugurating the school, he expressed optimism that the establishment of the UENR Basic School would expand access to quality education for more learners in the region.
Adding to the remarks, Professor Elvis Asare-Bediako, Vice-Chancellor of UENR, reiterated the university’s vision of becoming a world-class institution alongside its basic school. He noted that the school, established in September 2017 with 75 pupils and six female teachers, had already produced two batches of Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates, all of whom achieved 100 percent passes. He commended the staff for their dedication and encouraged them to continue fostering innovation in teaching and learning.
Mr. Anthony Asamoah, Headmaster of the UENR Basic School, revealed that enrollment had grown significantly, reaching 1,200 learners. He appealed for stakeholder support in constructing a new classroom block for the Junior High School to accommodate the increasing population. He also praised the university for its continued investment in infrastructure development.
The inauguration marked a significant milestone in UENR’s contribution to basic education in the Bono Region, with stakeholders expressing commitment to shaping a brighter future for learners.
