The Bono Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Addae Akwaboa, has called on the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to remain constantly prepared to respond to the country’s evolving security threats.

He stressed the importance of consistent training, strong commitment, and the upholding of excellence and professionalism to safeguard national stability.

Hon. Akwaboa made the call at the closing session of the Central Command March and Shoot Competition of the GAF, held at the Yawhima Shooting Range in the Sunyani Municipality on 22nd August 2025.

The periodic competition tests the operational capabilities of military units in navigation, obstacle crossing, and marksmanship.

Commending the event, Hon. Akwaboa highlighted its role in enhancing the operational readiness of the armed forces. He noted that the competition went beyond the pursuit of trophies, emphasizing that it sharpened skills, built endurance, reinforced discipline, and strengthened teamwork, qualities that define the military profession.

The Minister further urged the armed forces to apply their skills professionally in addressing the growing security challenges facing both the Bono Region and the nation.

He expressed concern about illegal mining and logging, describing them as critical threats to Ghana’s future, and encouraged the military to employ their expertise in coordinated operations to combat such activities.

In the competition, the 154 Armoured Regiment emerged overall winners with 308 points. They were followed by the Headquarters Central Command Camp with 284 points, the Third Garrison Infantry Battalion (3BN) with 259 points, and the Fourth Infantry Battalion (4BN) with 173 points.
