BONO REGIONAL MINISTER ENGAGES DORMAA TRADITIONAL COUNCIL ON DEVELOPMENT PLANS

The Bono Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Addae Akwaboa, has reiterated President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment to fulfilling his 2024 election campaign promises aimed at building a stronger nation.
During a courtesy call on the Dormaa Traditional Council at Dormaa-Ahenkro, as part of his familiarisation tour of the region, Hon. Akwaboa outlined several government interventions and projects earmarked for the Bono Region.
He announced that support from the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) would soon facilitate the construction of classrooms and dormitories for Senior High Schools in the region.
Additionally, construction works on a 24-hour market are expected to begin in the Dormaa Municipality.
Highlighting key national initiatives, Hon. Akwaboa noted that the “No Stress Fees” policy, “Mahama Care,” and the “Akoko Nkitiketin” programme are designed to address pressing challenges. Specifically, the poultry-focused “Akoko Nkitiketin” is expected to boost Dormaa’s poultry sector, generate jobs, and strengthen the local economy.

On infrastructure, he revealed that several roads in the region had been earmarked for construction under the “Big Push” initiative. These include the 36-kilometer Alaska outer ring road in Sunyani, the Sunyani–Ntotroso stretch, the Kyeremasu–Gambia road, and the Dormaa–Nkrantwanta road.
The Minister also expressed concern over illegal mining activities in communities such as Amasu, Aboabo, Dormaa-Akwamu, and Wamfie. He stressed the need for collective action to combat the menace and urged traditional leaders not to shield offenders from legal consequences.
On their part, the Dormaa Traditional Council, represented by Barima Twumasi Bekoe, Twafohene of the Dormaa Traditional Area, raised concerns about the deplorable state of the Dormaa-Aboabo and Gornokrom roads.
The chiefs also appealed for stronger efforts to curb illegal mining, which they said continues to pose a threat to the environment and local livelihoods.
