BONO REGIONAL MINISTER CALLS FOR GREATER INVESTMENT IN GRADUATE EDUCATION AT UENR SCIENCE FAIR

The Bono Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Addae Akwaboa, joined the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Hon. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, alongside the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) community, to commemorate the second edition of the UENR School of Sciences Science Fair in Sunyani on July 30, 2026.

The event served as a platform for discussions on the critical role of graduate education, scientific research, innovation, and entrepreneurship in Ghana’s development. Participants highlighted the importance of strengthening higher education and fostering innovation to address national challenges and support sustainable economic growth.

Addressing the gathering, the Bono Regional Minister emphasized the need to reposition graduate education as a driver of innovation and problem-solving. He noted that universities should equip students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to develop solutions to the country’s most pressing developmental challenges while nurturing the next generation of transformational leaders.

Hon. Joseph Addae Akwaboa also advocated sustained investment in graduate education, research, innovation, and entrepreneurship, describing them as essential pillars for advancing industrialization, accelerating economic growth, creating sustainable employment opportunities, and enhancing Ghana’s competitiveness in the global knowledge economy.

He further stressed the importance of transforming universities into centres that not only deliver academic excellence but also contribute directly to innovation, entrepreneurship, and national development.

The Science Fair brought together academia, students, researchers, policymakers, and other stakeholders to showcase scientific innovation and encourage collaboration in advancing research and technology-driven solutions for national progress.
