BONO REGIONAL MINISTER INAUGURATES COMMITTEE TO OPERATIONALIZE UENR MEDICAL SCHOOL
On 2nd March 2026, the Bono Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Addae Akwaboa, inaugurated a committee tasked with operationalizing the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) Medical School in Sunyani.
The ceremony, held at the Bono Regional Coordinating Council’s Conference Room, brought together key stakeholders, including the Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, who will serve as the committee’s chairman, the Regional Health Director, and other appointed members.
In his inaugural address, the Minister emphasized the importance of establishing the medical school, noting its potential to significantly strengthen healthcare delivery in the Bono Region and across Ghana. He explained that the initiative aligns with the Reset Agenda of President John Dramani Mahama, which seeks to expand access to quality healthcare and reinforce national institutions.

He further urged the committee to approach its responsibilities with urgency, discipline, and a strong focus on implementation, accountability, and measurable results. The Minister also assured members of the full support and leadership of the Regional Coordinating Council to ensure the success of the initiative.
The committee has been tasked with reviewing the progress made toward establishing the medical school, identifying key requirements, proposing strategies for its operationalization, and ensuring that the institution meets the necessary professional and academic standards.
