MILITARY BASE AROUND BUI DAM COMMISSIONED AT BANDA IN BONO REGION

On 29th of February 2024, the Deputy Minister of Defence Hon. Kofi Amankwaa-Manu together with the Bono Regional Minister, Hon. Justina Owusu-Banahene, commissioned the newly built Military Base at the Bui enclave in the Banda District of Bono Region.
The Forward Operation Base (FOB) meant to host Military personnel, their Armoury and other logistics forms part of Governments effort to beef up security in the country and especially on our western border and the entries from the Sahel to Middle and southern Ghana. The facility is to also protect the crucial investment of the nation, The Bui Dam against any aggression.

The durbar was attended by the representatives of the Banda Paramount chief, the chiefs of Bui and it’s environs and other chiefs from the Neighbouring Savanna Region.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony held at Bui, Mr Amankwa-Manu, also the Member of Parliament for Atwima-Kwanwoma in the Ashanti Region said the facility resonated with the Ministry’s strategic direction of the GAF’s expansion drive and the project of force into every corner to defend the country.
Additionally, “Bui FOB location complemented the network of bases we had approved and initiated at the Ministry regarding the Northern Border Project”, he said the strategic location of the Base to the dam would help to protect the national asset.
The Host of the program, Hon Owusu-Banahene, the Bono Regional Minister and the District Chief Executive of Banda, Hon. Emmanuel Akone led the entourage to tour the magnificent edifices being accommodations, offices, armouries, guard rooms, watchtowers, security posts etc making up the Military Base.

Hon. Owusu-Banahene said the Bui Dam has not only opened up the area for economic growth but also pushed the development of the entire Banda District to the next level.
She said protecting the dam remained a shared and collective responsibility and therefore entreated communities around the enclave to continue to ensure peaceful coexistence with the BPA to help improve security in the area.
The Regional Minister was thankful to the chiefs and people for the cooperation and the government for the good works in the region and in the District in particular.
The project is a collaborative effort between the government of Ghana and the Bui Power authority.
