BONO REGIONAL MINISTER URGES UNITED FRONT IN FIGHT AGAINST CORRUPTION
The Bono Regional Minister, Hon. Joseph Addae Akwaboa, has emphasized the need for collective and decisive action in the fight against corruption across Ghana.
Speaking through a speech read on his behalf by the Chief Director of the Bono Regional Coordinating Council (RCC), Mr. Nar-ire Puobenyere David, at the Bono Regional Stakeholders Forum on the National Ethics and Anti-Corruption Action Plan (NEACAP) 2026–2030, held on October 2, 2025, in Sunyani, the Minister underscored that the fight against corruption requires the active participation of all stakeholders.
The forum, organized by the Bono RCC, brought together Heads of Departments, Agencies, and other key stakeholders to share experiences, deliberate, and propose realistic measures to strengthen the national anti-corruption agenda.
Hon. Akwaboa noted that corruption continues to impede national development, good governance, and social cohesion. He stated that Ghana must strive to build a society where integrity thrives and corruption is minimized. “Corruption has become a canker that eats away the nation’s soul, distorting governance, eroding public trust, weakening institutions, and slowing national progress,” he said.
He further explained that corruption undermines justice, accountability, and unity in homes, schools, communities, and workplaces, with its negative effects permeating every aspect of life.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to the fight, Hon. Akwaboa highlighted the NEACAP 2026–2030 as a strategic framework aimed at promoting integrity, accountability, and good governance. He said the plan seeks to strengthen institutions, enhance oversight mechanisms, and inspire renewed energy and courage in advancing ethics and transparency within public service.
According to the Minister, the NEACAP 2026–2030 is designed to be impactful and transformative, leaving behind a lasting legacy of integrity for future generations.
In his remarks, Mr. Edem Senanu, Chairperson of the African Union Advisory Board Against Corruption (AUABC), stressed the importance of nurturing honesty and ethical values in the younger generation. He called for the reintroduction of civic, religious, and moral education in schools to instill integrity at an early age.
